BlueScope Steel has three main business units operating within Australia. These are BlueScope Steel Australian and New Zealand Industrial Markets, BlueScope Steel Australian Manufacturing Markets and BlueScope Lysaght. Significant operations centre around the Port Kembla Steelworks and nearby Illawarra Coated Products. Large distributed production facilities also exist at Western Port Works (VIC) and at nationwide service centres, sales offices and roll forming facilities.

BlueScope Steel Australian and New Zealand Industrial Markets

BlueScope Steel's Port Kembla Steelworks is a five million tonne a year integrated steelworks located 80 kilometres south of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It produces a wide range of finished and semi-finished flat steel products for Australian and international customers.

Within our Coated Steel Australia business, our Illawarra Coated Products plant and Western Port Works produce cold rolled, metallic coated and prepainted steel coils for local and overseas markets. Illawarra Coated Products has an output of 0.9 million tonnes per year; Western Port 1.2 million tonnes per year.

Illawarra Coated Products sources hot rolled steel coils from the adjacent Port Kembla Steelworks for further processing. Western Port uses raw steel slabs, also supplied by the Port Kembla Steelworks, and converts them into hot rolled steel coils. These can then be on-sold in this form or further processed.

Both plants have cold rolling capabilities, while Western Port has additional capabilities in coil annealing and temper rolling to produce higher value uncoated products. Common to both plants are the metallic coating and painting lines that produce our premium products like ZINCALUME® steel and COLORBOND® steel.

The flat steel products produced at Illawarra Coated Products and Western Port are routinely used by the Australian building, manufacturing and automotive industries, as well as exported to Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.

Our associated BlueScope Steel Service Centres, located around Australia, process bulk flat steel products for use by the building and construction, automotive, whitegoods and rural sectors.
